Since the age of 9 Johnty proved he had an ear for music. Combined efforts from himself and his father lead him to his competency on the guitar. Without a single guitar lesson, Johnty found that he could hear the chords better than he could read them. Surrounded by Irish folk and country sounds, music was destined to be a part of who he become.

Playing in and amongst the family bands, he would stay behind to sing solo. His combining influences such as David gray, The Eagles, John Mayer, Paolo Nutini, and Newton Faulkner led him to create this unique sound that can be described as country folk pop.

The Early spring of 2008 brought difficult times for Johnty and his family, his father had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Throughout these difficult times Johnty found that channelling his thoughts through song writing proved therapeutic, for him and his family.

Now a passion and a new outlook on live and its value, Johnty had every intention of going out and being the best that he could be.

As time progressed and Johnty put himself through university, and whilst walking through the city centre, noticed open mich night signs. On the 13th of March he was approached to play at an open mich night, and the reviews he had, suggested”why haven’t we seen you before”

Playing regularly in the Coventry music seen ,promoting his new song I’d choose you, he was asked to play at coventries Godiva festival, an opportunity in which he could not refuse.

Cd sales sold thick and fast and the interest in the song proved strong. His 45 minute set brought in 3 paper reviews and more bookings within Coventry music scene.

To promote himself further Johnty began hosting his own open mich nights canvassing of many establishments handing out flyers offering local talent and Entertainment.

With over 5,000 hits across his media pages in just 3 months, and now an appearance on the first break show hosted by touch fm.

“The first break is broadcasted on Thursday evenings for local bands and artists who are looking for a first break in the music industry and get their music heard on the radio.”

“Each week, they give a local band the chance to support an established band on the show. All of the following acts have got videos in their archive.”

The show has achieved number 9 in the podcast download chart and is proving to be a great opening for new artists like Johnty mongan to get their music out there.

The producers at touch were keen for him to come in and do an acoustic session, including 2 covers and his knew signature track I’d choose you. Along with the live performances there will be an informal interview, on his influences and aspirations.
